Soldaat van Oranje is one of the most famous musicals in the Netherlands. Soldier of Orange the musical premiered in 2010 in a theater created specifically for this production. Since then, the musical has welcomed over 3.5 million visitors to their 360-degree rotating theater.

The story

When the Germans invade the Netherlands in 1940, Leiden student Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema enjoys a carefree student life with his friends. Suddenly, the approximately 23-year-old men realize that nothing is the same anymore. Friendship and love are no longer taken for granted. The war sheds a new light on everything, putting all relationships to the test. Everyone is faced with the necessity of making personal choices: Do you fight for freedom, people, fatherland? Do you close your eyes and continue studying? Or do you consciously choose the enemy?

The musical is based on the true story of Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema. He was one of the greatest resistance fighters in Dutch history. After the war, Erik decides to write down his memories and the book 'Soldaat van Oranje' becomes a bestseller. In 1997, the book is made into a movie and in 2010, the premiere of Soldaat van Oranje - The Musical takes place. Unfortunately, Erik could not witness this himself. He passed away in 2007 at the age of 90.
