Soldaat van Oranje is one of the most famous musicals in the Netherlands. Soldaat van Oranje the musical premiered in 2010 in a theater created for this show. Since then, the musical has received more than 3.5 million visitors in their 360-degree rotating theater.
The Story
When the Germans invade the Netherlands in 1940, Leiden student Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema and his friends are enjoying a carefree student life. Suddenly the 23-year-old men realize that nothing is the same anymore. Friendship and love are no longer taken for granted. The war casts everything in a new light, with all relationships on edge. Everyone is faced with the need to make personal choices: Do you fight for freedom, people, homeland? Do you close your eyes and study on? Or do you consciously choose the enemy?
The musical is based on the true story of Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema. He was one of the greatest resistance fighters in Dutch history. After the war, Erik decided to write down his memories and the book " Soldaat van Oranje" became a bestseller. In 1997 the book is filmed and in 2010 the premiere of Soldaat van Oranje - De Musical. Unfortunately, Erik could not experience it himself. He died in 2007 at the age of 90.
The musical is played in the TheaterHangaar. This is about a 15-minute drive from Van der Valk Palace Hotel Noordwijk. In addition, the TheaterHangaar is also accessible by public transport.
